Base Coin = 1 copper
10 copper = 1 silver
10 silver = 1 gold
10 gold = 1 platinum
Real World Conversions
1 copper = 1USD
1 silver = 10USD
1 gold = 100USD
1 platinum = 1000USD
The highest paid Officials on the island usually get paid around seven gold (7g, or $700) a month for their services, and more if they have other jobs outside of their Stately functions.
People who run their own businesses can expect around two gold a month (2g, or $200), assuming business went well for them and they paid all their employees, creditors, and rent.
The lowest paid individuals - the ones only working one part-time unskilled labour type job - make around five silver (5s, or $50) a month. This is minimum wage on Nasmara.
Even though people get paid much lower than their real-world counterparts, goods still retain the average prices of their real-world counterparts.
As such, a meal at the tavern costs around five copper (5c, or $5), and good, sturdy clothing will set a person back one to two gold pieces (1-2g, or $100 to $200).
A room at the tavern runs one and a half silver (1s 5c, or $15) a night. Rents on apartments usually run between two silver (2s or $20) to two gold (2g or $200) a month, depending on size and location.
The idea behind this is that goods were much harder to make in the time period we’re playing in, with materials being further away and more costly to process and import (remember, things coming from China were walked overland!). They were also intended to last a lot longer as well, being things that you can pass on from mother to daughter and father to son. Owning things and having belongings, especially convenience or decorative items, is a sign of wealth and station.
There is also a 4% tariff (tax) on goods going in and out, making it preferable to sell and buy locally.
If your character is self employed, more than 80% of their income must be done through RP interaction with other players. We want wealthy characters to become so as an inherent reward for involved RP.
If your character works under an NPC their income is fixed to what is listed on that shop’s page. If your character works under another player’s character, that character decides your character’s income.
